There, There, 2017

Script Installation / Performance / Duration: Minimum 120 minutes

There, there is a durational performance, originally commissioned as a site specific piece, taking place in the preserved Amsterdam studio of Dutch artist Gisèle d'Ailly van Waterschoot van der Gracht (1912 – 2013). The performance script is an account of actions, written in future tense. It is split in sections, printed on cards, and distributed in space keeping in line with the visual logic of objects and arrangements in the room. The script relates to a single female protagonist, a woman with a pale pink scarf. She is occasionally present, and performs the scripted sequence in a loop.

The printed script and its sporadic embodiment create a tension of converging time perspectives – a visitor might read the cards, vaguely remember it, then encounter the mysterious woman fitting the description, as some sort of glitch in time and apparition. Any woman wearing a pink scarf is immediately implicated.
