Flip Sides, 2013
Performance / Duration: 50 minutes
Considering how our lives are largely driven by notions of productivity, worth and purpose, in Flip Sides I concentrate on things that have been rendered marginal and useless. My team and I make lists of everything that appears to no longer fulfil its' initial function. Our lists include a sizeable range – from broken objects to abandoned cities, from expiration dates to unreciprocated smiles, from minor gestures to redundant feelings – we try to be thorough.
For the presentation we select thirty four lists. As their numerous entries are methodically introduced, they begin to resonate in unexpected manners. The discarded enters a parallel archive of memory, remains and significances.
